The ensemble La Scatola Sonora (literally "the Music Box") was founded in 1999 by Andrea Miola and Massimo Pedretti who, after many years of orchestral experience, wanted to try new kinds of sound and new repertoires with a cameristic group. The name is inspired to the title of a radio program of some years ago, that proposed itself as a container of different kinds of music, from classic to jazz and beyond.

The instruments (and the musicians) are: two mandolins (Andrea Miola and Eleonora Di Filippo), one mandola (Massimo Pedretti), two classic guitars (Maria Rosa Dorbolò and Elena Misdariis) and a cello (Paolo Michelutti). The mix between the clear sounds of the plucked strings instruments (mandolins, mandola and guitars) and rich sound of the the cello contribuited to create a distinctive and particular sound.

The musics played are various and typical of different Countries (Italy, Latin America, Ireland, Greece, Mexico etc).

In August 2005 the ensemble produced the first CD: "Serenata Gaia". The musics played are listed below.
